As part of a grant-funded project at Bindford Middleschool, these Rain Garden drawings and stormwater calculations were presented to Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay Virginia Director Nissa Dean, and Binford Middle School Principle Melissa Rickey.

VCU Community Garden

2012

"Garden" - Original typographic design illustrating our mission and proposed location on VCU campus: The Larrick Student Center

Green Unity Leadership Team: VCU Community Garden creation taskforce

  • Garden planning and meetings with VCU Physcal Plant Dep.
  • Liaison with MPC SGA to procure funding 
  • Graphic design of volunteer flyers and social media outreach
  • Organized ground breaking day and construction of hugelkultur and sub-irrigated raised beds

Urban Garden

2013

Designed and constructed a rain garden for developmentally challenged adults. Features over 100 gallons of roof rain catchment capability via the rain barrel tower. Gravity fed drip irrigation lines deliver water to various native plant species including trees, shrubs, and flower beds.

Carverponics

2013-2014

Organized and acquired funding for an aquaponic system in local elementary school G. W. Carver Elementary School's unused greenhouse. Managed the project, leading frequent workshops and lessons for The Carver Promise, classes, and teachers

Schematic of the aquaponic system plumbing. One pump in the fishtank delivers water to two flood and drain growbeds, and vertically stacked NFT channels.

Design details

  • 250 gallon fish tank, with a 10 gallon per fish ratio.
  • Two - 4'x4' by 12" depth grow trays for a total of 32 cubic feet of flood and drain growing space
  • One - 15' NFT channel with 20 netpot holes

2016 - 2017

 Started a facility in Richmond that accelerates community learning, small businesses, the maker movement, urban agriculture and the arts for the North Side Community. Produced floor plans, and oversaw renovations and landscaping.

Renovated a decayed wall & flooring, opening a second floor mezzanine, replaced the floors, and installed a handrail.
